Katie's first book, a collection of short fiction titled Equipoise, was released in 2021. Equipoise was shortlisted for the HarperCollins/UBC Prize for Best New Fiction and the ReLit Short Fiction Award. Stories within the collection won the Carter V. Cooper Emerging Writer Short Fiction Award as selected by Joyce Carol Oates (a second story was also shortlisted for the prize) and The New Quarterly’s Peter Hinchcliffe Short Fiction Award, as well as having received publisher nominations for the Writers’ Trust Journey Prize and two National Magazine Awards.
She is currently working on her first novel, Catch a Sparrow, which will be published Fall 2027 by Freehand Books. A second collection is also in the works. Individual chapters and stories have recently been shortlisted for the Ex-Puritan Short Fiction Award, the Room Magazine Short Fiction Contest, and twice longlisted for the Masters Review Novel Excerpt Contest.
Her novella, "Fallowing," was shortlisted for the 2024 Malahat Review Novella Prize.
Katie is a graduate of the University of British Columbia MFA in Creative Writing program and the Humber College post-grad certificate in Creative Writing program.
